Golf star Pak sidelined indefinitely

Se Ri Pak, a five-time major champion and 25-time LPGA winner, has been sidelined indefinitely with a tear in the labrum of her left shoulder, the South Korean golf star announced on Friday.

Pak, 34, has won more than $US11.5 million since joining the LPGA Tour in 1998. She suffered the injury on Tuesday when she slipped on some stairs and tried to break her fall by grabbing a railing.

Pak, who withdrew from this week’s LPGA event in Alabama, is currently ranked 29th in the world. After learning of the injury in an MRI exam on Thursday, she started rehabilitation immediately in hopes of avoiding surgery.

“Right now, there is no timeline for my return to the LPGA, but I know the next two months of rehab will be important for my recovery,” Pak said.

“I have a positive outlook and I fully expect to return to the LPGA Tour as soon as the time is right.”

She was treated at a hospital in Mobile, the site of this week’s LPGA event.
