Fiji added to Australasian PGA Tour

The Australasian PGA Tour has been boosted by a five-year agreement to add a $US1 million-plus golf tournament in Fiji to its schedule.

The new Fiji International, to be co-sanctioned by the OneAsia Tour, will first be contested in August next year.

But plans are to move it to a later date in subsequent years to align more closely with the Australian PGA Championship, the Australian Open, Australian Masters and Perth International.

The new tournament, to be played at the Natadola Bay championship course, was announced by PGA of Australasia chief executive Brian Thorburn and welcomed by Fiji Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

“The signing of today’s MOU is a significant moment for Fiji because it demonstrates that the PGA has faith in our country to hold one of its major events,” said Bainimarama.

“Faith in our infrastructure; faith in our economy; and faith in our people.

“With a potential broadcast reach to more than 400 million people across 40 countries, it will feature Fiji as a top golf and tourist destination in millions of homes around the globe.”
