Several of the world’s top golfers will take to the greens on Friday as the second leg of the West Coast Swing tees off from Torrey Pines.
With the PLAYERS Championship right around the corner, the Farmers Insurance Open is the perfect form guide heading towards some of the PGA’s major tournaments later in the year.
A deep field made up of Jon Rahm, last year’s winner Marc Leishman, and Xander Schauffele headline the top of the market, but there is also tremendous value to be found on two-time winner Jason Day as well as household names like Brooks Koepka and Adam Scott.
Torrey Pines is the longest course on the PGA Tour, so it’s best to back guys that can mix distance and accuracy off the tee.
Fortunately, we’ve done the hard work for you in our complete 2021 Farmers Insurance Open Preview below.
Farmers Insurance Open Best Bet
Xander Schauffele at $13.00
The 27-year-old California native knows this course like the back of his hand, although that hasn’t stopped him missing the cut in four of his five appearances at this event.
Even so, it just feels like Schauffele isn’t garnering enough attention leading into this tournament.
He was outstanding three weeks ago at the Tournament of Champions finishing T5 to add to his consistent run of form dating back to June last year.
In case you forgot, the American finished T10 at the PGA Championship, T2 at the TOUR Championship, outright fifth at the US Open and T17 at the Masters.
With 13 straight Top 25 finishes, something has to give sooner or later.
Farmers Insurance Open Best Value
Marc Leishman at $34.00
The defending champ is in fine form as he looks to tackle another treacherous weekend at Torrey Pines.
Aussies have dominated this tournament in recent years with Leishman and Jason Day winning three of the last five, so it’s pretty incredible to find $34 about Leishman in the market.
After a pretty rough end to last season, Leishman has returned in style finishing T24 at the Tournament of Champions prior to last fortnight’s T4 at Waialae in Hawaii.
He’s one of the few guys on Tour that seems to relish playing in wild and windy conditions and his putting at the Sony Open should hopefully carry over with some rest on his side.
Farmers Insurance Open Best Roughies
Gary Woodland at $51.00
Woodland burst back onto the scene last week with a T16 at The American Express, his first finish inside the Top 20 since July last year.
If you’ve been wondering where the former US Open winner has been hiding, he’s been battling his way back through injury, something he said he’s finally overcome last weekend.
As far as this event goes, the big man has plenty of experience at Torrey Pines finishing Top 20 on five different occasions.
His putting in the middle rounds was outstanding last week and his distance off the tee should keep him competitive here at juicy odds.
Cameron Champ at $67.00
Champ missed the cut last week at PGA West, but I fancy him to bounce-back after finishing 16th at this event last year.
Torrey Pines calls for distance off the tee, something Champ has in abundance ranking third overall on Tour.
His putting can run hot and cold, but he almost always returns a good effort after missing the cut in his previous event.
Farmers Insurance Open Top 10 Finish
Hideki Matsuyama at $3.40
Easily one of the toughest guys to get a feel for week on week, but we’ve seen a few guys that haven’t won for a while finally break through already this season.
Like always, Matsuyama hasn’t been far off the mark finishing Top 20 in three of his last four appearances.
He also finished third at this event two years ago, so it wouldn’t be surprising if he at least comes close.
Sungjae Im at $4.50
Incredible to find these odds on offer for a man that held the lead after 36 holes last week at PGA West.
Im is one of the best ball strikers in the world right now and he won’t be short on motivation after finishing T36 here last year.
