Day tees off chasing US Open title

Jason Day has teed off in the final round of the US Open, the co-leader aiming to overcome vertigo and the world’s top-two golfers on the brutal Chambers Bay course in Washington State.

The Australian is at four-under, sharing the top of the leaderboard with playing partner Dustin Johnson as well as South African Branden Grace and world No.2 Jordan Spieth.

World No.1 Rory McIlroy got off to a flying start on Sunday, four-under after 11 holes to be at even for the tournament and well in contention.

Australian Cameron Smith, the 21-year-old in his major debut, is outright fifth at one-under.

Day is still battling the effects of vertigo that caused him to collapse on the course at the end of his second round on Friday and his caddie said he was on the verge of withdrawing during his back nine on Saturday.

He is a two-time runner-up at the US Open – in 2011 and 2013 – and is looking to win his first major title.
