Australian Jason Day is just a shot from the lead of the US Open midway through the final round at Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania.
Day is one under par through 11 holes on his round to be one over for the championship one shot behind England’s Justin Rose, who is even par through 10.
Day birdied the fourth, eighth and 10th holes but dropped shots on the fifth and 11th.
His bogey on the 11th came from a phenomenal chip-in after hitting his approach shot into the water and his next into deep rough.
Day is vying to give Australia back-to-back majors for the first time in history after Adam Scott won the masters in April.
Australian David Graham won the last US Open at Merion in 1981.
