Defending Ladies Masters champion Christel Boeljon thought her hotel was going to fall down during Monday’s howling storm which smashed the Gold Coast.
“I just hid in my hotel room, just watching it out of the window of my building. Waiting for it to fall down,” said Dutchwoman Boeljon.
“It was hard to sleep because my window was creaking and the balcony was actually shaking.”
It was a good test of her nerve before stepping out on Friday to start the defence of her Masters title against Royal Pines specialist Karrie Webb and world ranked Koreans So Yeon Ryu (No.7) and two-time major winner and current British Open champion Jiyai Shin (No.8).
Despite the wild weather, Boeljon managed to get in some practise on the range at nearby Robina with much of the Royal Pines course under water on Tuesday.
Players were allowed to walk the course on Wednesday and practise their putting on the greens but no play was permitted.
Thursday’s pro-am however was expected to go ahead provided there was no further rain overnight.
“It (the course) looked pretty bad but the difference from yesterday (Tuesday) is really quite big,” said Boeljon who fired a closing 68 last year to beat Ryu by one shot.
