Aaron Baddeley sits in a tie for the lead after the morning wave of the opening round in the US PGA Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village.
Baddeley fired a three-under par 69 to join Andres Romero, Blake Adams and Rory Sabbatini with the clubhouse lead.
Tiger Woods sits just a shot further back in a tie for fifth after a round of 70.
Baddeley started on the back nine and immediately made a move with a birdie on the opening hole. He rolled in another on the 12th before he copped a bad break on the 14th. With his tee shot sailing right Baddeley was resigned to a tough approach but he caught the cart path and bounced out of bounds, forcing a re-tee. In the end the Victorian carded a double bogey six, but it was his only blemish of the round.
Birdies at the 16th, fourth and sixth holes and some clever par saves throughout ensured a fast start for the 31-year-old.
Woods bounced back from a double bogey of his own. The 14-time major champion and four-time Memorial champion dropped two shots on the 18th hole, his ninth, before gaining them back across the front nine to be lurking just off the pace.
Greg Chalmers fired a 71 to be just two off the lead while Rod Pampling bogeyed the final two holes to finish with a 72. Marc Leishman was also at even par 72, Robert Allenby fired a 73 and Jason Day threw away a promising two under front nine to finish with a 74.
John Senden struggled to a 77. Adam Scott, Geoff Ogilvy, Stuart Appleby, Nick O’Hern and Bryden Macpherson are out in the afternoon.
