Baddeley hopes to steal Ohio golf win

Aaron Baddeley refuses to throw in the towel despite being six shots off the lead heading into the final round of the US PGA Memorial Tournament in Ohio.

Despite imposing names like Tiger Woods and Rickie Fowler in front of him, Baddeley is ready to surge.

Spencer Levin, who leads Rory Sabbatini by one shot, gave up a six-shot buffer earlier this year at the Phoenix Open.

As such, Baddeley remains confident he can steal a fourth US PGA Tour win if he plays hard, but especially smart.

The 31-year-old knows a win will be difficult, especially with tough windy conditions forecast once more on a course known to spit out as many ‘others’ as it does birdies.

Unlike some courses, Muirfield Village doesn’t lend itself to super aggressive golf.

“Six back with these conditions, you never know what might happen. A good score will go a very long way tomorrow,” Baddeley said.

“But I can’t press around here especially in these conditions.

“You have to find the balance and just play what this golf course gives you.

“I have to hit quality shots and just make sure I make the most of my opportunities.”

Baddeley says he’ll target the four par-fives as well as taking a few calculated risks on other holes.

“This is a second-shot golf course and you have to hit in the right spots,” he said.

“You are trying to make birdies but you can’t get out of position.

“If you go too hard at pins and end up in a bad spot, Jack Nicklaus made sure it can be super, super difficult.

“You’re better off having a 20-foot birdie chance then being short sided.”
