Australian Jones earns British Open start

Australia’s Brendan Jones earned a spot in the field for the British Open when he shot a four-under-par 68 on Sunday to win the Mizuno Open in Japan.

The 38-year-old, who started the final round with a two-stroke lead over South Korea’s Kim Tae-kyung, eagled the par-5 sixth hole at the Setonaikai Golf Club and added five birdies against three bogeys to finish at 19-under for the tournament.

Kim finished second three strokes back after carding a 69 while Makoto Inoue was third.

Tetsuji Hiratsuka (68) and Shingo Katayama (72) tied for fourth at 11-under.

Jones collected $US221,000 ($A239,000) for his first victory in Japan since winning the Sun Chlorella Classic in July 2012.
