Australian Lindsey Wright fired a bogey-free five-under-par 67 to move into the top five at the halfway point of the LPGA Founders Cup at the Wildlife Golf Club in Phoenix, Arizona.
Wright will be chasing South Korean Jee Young Lee, who sits atop of the leaderboard at 15-under after a superb 64, which included four birdies on each nine.
Lee is one shot ahead of first-round leader, Japan’s Ai Miyazato, who backed up her LPGA career low round of nine-under with a respectable 67.
One of the players Lee and Miyazato will be watching is American Stacy Lewis, who is poised to make a move at 11-under after carding a 65 in the second round.
Lewis will go to No.1 on the women’s world rankings if she can win this week and current No.1 Yani Tseng fails to finish in the top two.
Titleholder Tseng barely made the cut on the number and is tied for 60th place at the halfway mark.
Wright is at nine-under and shares fourth position with Americans Danielle Kang (67) and Gerina Piller (69), Taiwan’s Candie Kung (69) and South Korean Amy Yang (67).
The highlight of Wright’s round was when she holed out from 98 yards for an eagle on the par-4 13th.
The 33-year-old also posted birdies on the 5th, 11th and 13th holes.
Katherine Hull-Kirk is the next best Australian in 14th spot after a 70.
