Adam Scott takes lead at Aust PGA

World No.2 Adam Scott has moved into the lead of the Australian PGA Championship following his second round on the Gold Coast.

The Masters champion shot a four-under 67 to take a two-shot lead into the clubhouse at 10 under overall.

In front of a gallery packed with fans wearing green as part of a promotion to celebrate Scott’s win at Augusta National in April, the hometown favourite shot a bogey-free round featuring two birdies and an eagle on the par-5 12th at Royal Pines.

Victorian journeyman David McKenzie, who begun the day level with Scott at six-under overall, threatened to join the 33-year-old at the top of the leaderboard.

But the 46-year-old stumbled, with his second bogey of the round on the 18th giving him a second-round 69 and a tie for second with overnight leader Rickie Fowler at eight under.

New Zealander Josh Geary was among the big movers of the morning, shooting a three-under 68 to move up to a tie for fourth at six-under overall.

Australian Steven Jeffress, enjoying the time of his golfing career following his British Open debut earlier this year, also shot a three-under 68 to sit level with Geary and local Matthew Ballard.

American young gun Fowler, who was the overnight leader, tees off his second round at 12.20pm local time (1320AEDT).
