Barakey holds favouritism for the Winterbottom Stakes but punters have regrouped after the horse drew the outside barrier for the Group 1.
Barakey is the best backed runner with online bookmaker sportsbet.com.au and has been favourite for the Ascot Group 1 since betting opened. However, after drawing barrier 10 interest has waned.
The five-year-old has eased from $2.15 to $2.25, while the next best backed is Hallowell Belle, who has remained steady at $6.00. Another local, Travinator, has been eased from $4.80 out to $5.00.
“Since the barrier draw interest has cooled in Barakey. The money was coming for him at a steady rate and although he still remains our best backed runner the flow of money has slowed,” sportsbet.com.au’s Ben Hawes said.
“He has the speed to overcome the bad gate and we’re expecting support for him to fire-up again as we move closer to race day.”
There was a similar reaction for Railway Stakes favourite Luckygray, who eased from $3.50 to $3.70 after drawing barrier 12 in the 16-horse field.
Fat Al firmed from $8.00 into $7.00 after drawing well in gate four.
