Trainer Nacim Dilmi, still early in his career, is forging ahead successfully for Domeland, with I Am Carrot providing the 30th win for their colours thanks to a polished performance at Randwick Kensington.
Dilmi took up duties as the dedicated trainer for the operation’s racing and breeding arms from this season’s start, following his Godolphin stint, and enjoys a 19 per cent winning percentage.
That tally received a lift from I Am Carrot’s authoritative conquest of the Kia Central Region Dealer Of The Year Handicap (1300m) midweek, leaving Dilmi inclined to pursue stakes berths in Brisbane’s winter program.
“It’s good to get another win out of the way,” Dilmi said.
“I don’t want to step up in grade too soon, but he’ll go to Queensland after this and hopefully we can find a nice race for him like the Fred Best (Classic), or another stakes race towards the end of the Queensland carnival.
“Obviously if the field is a bit strong or he needs more time I won’t rush him into it, but so far he is doing the right things to put his hand up for Queensland.”
I Am Carrot ($4.20), partnered by Jason Collett, powered home best to triumph by three-quarters of a length over Alphard ($6) and Events ($14) in third, beaten by another length.
Dilmi highlighted gelding I Am Carrot as he entered three-year-old life as a turning point, the gelding collecting three successes alongside two seconds in five starts thereafter.
The Group 3 Fred Best Classic (1400m) is at Eagle Farm on May 30.
