Ponting out for eight at the WACA

Retiring batsman Ricky Ponting has been dismissed for eight in his final Test innings.

Ponting was caught at first slip by Jacques Kallis off the bowling of spinner Robin Peterson just three minutes before lunch on day four of the third Test against South Africa at the WACA Ground.

Ponting was given a guard of honour when he made his way to the crease.

And once he was dismissed, most of South Africa’s players ran over to him to shake his hand.

Ponting then raised his bat and helmet high in the air in acknowledgment to the crowd.

At lunch, Australia were in deep strife at 3-110, chasing an unlikely 632 for victory, with Ed Cowan on 37 and Michael Clarke on eight.
