Pomersbach to make Qld cricket debut

Once-troubled batsman Luke Pomersbach has taken a major step on the path to redemption after being named to make his one-day debut for Queensland.

The 28-year-old former WA cricketer will don the Bulls colours for the first time in their crunch clash with NSW at Canberra on Sunday after replacing the injured Chris Lynn (groin).

Pomersbach – who was famously plucked from the WACA carpark to make his international Twenty20 debut in 2007 – got the nod from Bulls selectors after thrashing 141 for Brisbane club side Toombul last weekend.

It marks another major milestone for Pomersbach who overcame off-field issues before signing a one-season deal with Queensland in July.

He has only been playing Brisbane grade cricket for a month due to off-season hand surgery.

“I have got the passion back. I think every cricketer loses it every now and again, you go off the boil a bit,” Pomersbach told AAP upon his return to cricket last month.

“But I have it back. It feels like I am playing under 17s again I have that much drive.”

The third-placed Bulls (nine points) must win on Sunday to chip away at leading teams Victoria (19pts) and South Australia (18pts).

Besides Pomersbach’s injection, left-arm spinner Brad Ipson replaces allrounder Jason Floros (finger).

It is the Bulls’ last game before the Sheffield Shield and one-day competition goes on a month-long hiatus due to the Big Bash League Twenty20 tournament.

Queensland: Chris Hartley (capt), Joe Burns, Ben Cutting, Peter Forrest, Matthew Gale, Cameron Gannon, Nathan Hauritz, Brad Ipson, Usman Khawaja, Alister McDermott, Luke Pomersbach, Nathan Reardon (12th man to be named).
