Meares, McCullouch set world cycling mark

Anna Meares and Kaarle McCulloch set a new world record in qualifying for the team sprint at the World Cup cycling event being held at the London Olympic velodrome Friday.

The Australian pair, the reigning world champions in the two-woman power event, clocked a time of 32.828sec to beat their own record of 32.923 and set up a gold medal duel with Britain, second in 32.966.

The women’s team sprint, held with two riders and over two laps as opposed to three and three for the men, will make its Olympic debut in London.
