Yorkshire are hoping to have Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc available as their overseas signing by early next month.

The club confirmed Starc’s intended arrival on their official website this morning, in time for the County Championship match against Gloucestershire at Bristol on May 9.

The 22-year-old left-arm seamer stepped in for the injured Peter Siddle in last week’s Test victory against West Indies in Dominica, Starc’s fourth cap.

Yorkshire made it clear from the outset of this season that, after learning Australian batsman Phil Jaques would be able to play for them on a domestic contract, they would be targeting a pace bowler instead as an overseas signing.

Starc, who has also played in seven one-day internationals, appears to fit the bill for Yorkshire’s director of cricket Martyn Moxon and first-team coach – and ex-Australia fast bowler – Jason Gillespie.
