Windies 1-60 at lunch vs Australia

The West Indies have reached 1-60 at lunch on day one of the first Test against Australia at Kensington Oval in Barbados.

Toiling on a hard pitch offering very little for Australia’s bowlers, Ryan Harris has taken the only wicket to fall with teenage opener Kraigg Braithwaite (24no) and Kirk Edwards (11no) guiding the home team to the break.

Brathwaite was lucky to survive in the 13th over when he chipped a Peter Siddle delivery back to the Victorian paceman only for Siddle to fail to hold onto the chance in his left hand.

Siddle made up for his drop five overs later when Harris bounced Adrian Barath and the diminutive opener couldn’t resist the opportunity to hook, top-edging straight down Siddle’s throat at deep backward square to be caught for 22.

Australia used five bowlers in the session, including captain Michael Clarke, as they tried to make something happen.

Harris had 1-19 from eight overs while Siddle (0-17) beat the bat on occasion in his seven overs.

Earlier on Saturday, Ricky Ponting presented wicketkeeper Matthew Wade with his baggy green cap ahead of his Test debut for Australia, who are wearing black armbands in honour of former Test player Ron Gaunt who died last week.
