Dwayne Bravo struck 77 as West Indies recovered from the loss of four quick wickets after opener Chris Gayle had marked his return to international duty with a blistering fifty featuring five sixes.

Bravo and Kieron Pollard (41), who were both given reprieves by England, shared a fifth-wicket stand of exactly 100.

James Anderson led England’s attack with two wickets for 38 runs in his maximum permitted 10 overs.
