Watson takes 3-34 against India

Allrounder Shane Watson has claimed his second three-wicket haul in three matches in the World Twenty20 to help restrict India to 7-140 in Friday night’s Super Eights clash.

India, who chose to bat first at Colombo’s Premadasa Stadium, lost 3-4 in seven deliveries in a middle-order collapse – with opener Irfan Pathan (31) and No.6 Suresh Raina the only batsmen to pass 20.

Teenager Pat Cummins bowled with maturity beyond his years, taking 2-16 from his four overs.

Watson (3-34) improved his tally to eight wickets in three matches in the tournament, in which he’s already claimed two man-of-the-match awards.

Cummins toe-poked the ball onto the stumps in his follow-through as Gautam Gambhir was run out for 17 in the third over.

The teenager produced a brilliant short ball to Virat Kohli in the eighth over and Kohli was rattled as he attempted a big pull shot next ball and was caught at mid-off for 15.

Watson dismissed Yuvraj Singh (eight) with a bouncer then removed Pathan five balls later.

India lost a third wicket for four runs when Rohit Sharma was bowled by Mitchell Starc for one at 5-74 at the start of the 12th over.

India were looking to MS Dhoni to guide them through the closing overs but the skipper was caught at cover off the bowling of Cummins for 15 with 24 balls remaining.

Watson removed Raina in the final over.
