Warner sparks Aussies in Windies Test

A brilliant caught and bowled by David Warner has lifted a clumsy Australia in the first Test against the West Indies in Barbados.

At tea on day one the home team are 2-158 with Kraigg Brathwaite not out on 53 and Darren Bravo unbeaten on 14.

Australia dropped two slips catches in the middle session before Warner, bowling his part-time leg-spin, snared a sharp catch off Kirk Edwards to end a 104-run stand with teenager Brathwaite.

The wicket was Warner’s first in international cricket and will have given Shane Watson huge relief after the allrounder had dropped the Windies’ vice-captain off Peter Siddle the over before.

Brathwaite has also lived dangerously, surviving Siddle dropping a caught and bowled chance in the first session before Ricky Ponting grassed a slips catch when the opener was 44.

Warner ended the session by conceding 10 runs to Bravo off his fifth over, to finish with 1-23.

Ryan Harris is the other wicket-taker, claiming opener Adrian Barath for 22 in the morning session, and has figures of 1-25 off 11 overs.
