WA dominating Shield clash with NSW

NSW failed to pick up a wicket by tea on day two of their Sheffield Shield clash against Western Australia at the WACA Ground in Perth.

At the tea break, Liam Davis and Adam Voges had both hammered centuries, putting WA in the box seat to gain an outright victory as their lead ballooned to 242 after NSW’s paltry first innings total of 91.

Their unbroken 228-run stand moved the home team to 2-333 as Davis reached 171 not out and Voges moved to 109 unbeaten.

Voges offered up the only genuine chance of the day so far, dropped at second slip by Steven Smith off the bowling of Josh Lalor in the second session.

Other than that, the WA pair, who came together at 2-105, have been largely untroubled.

Davis moved past 150 with a glorious cover drive while a similarly stylish shot brought up the pair’s 200 partnership.

Voges reached his 206-ball century with a three off Stephen O’Keefe.

Shane Watson bowled four miserly overs in the middle session, but the allrounder is not bowling with the same zip as he did on Friday.

Despite being one batsman short – captain Marcus North is in hospital after finger surgery – WA looks unlikely to declare any time soon.
