Western Australia captain Adam Voges won the toss and elected to bat first on Friday in an already rain-delayed Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland at the WACA Ground.
The Warriors are coming off Monday’s thumping innings and 38-run victory in Perth over Victoria.
That game was virtually out of Victoria’s hands when stand-in captain Rob Quiney won the toss and elected to bowl first with no movement in the air or off the pitch from the outset.
WA amassed 8(dec)-581 in their first innings and only had to bat once but perhaps Quiney was hoping for the type of conditions that Queensland will have to open the match at the WACA.
It’s a windy and overcast day in Perth with light rain already delaying the start of play so Queensland pacemen Ben Cutting, Michael Neser, Luke Feldman and captain James Hopes will be hoping to extract plenty of life out of the wicket and from the overcast conditions.
It might very well be the ideal conditions to bowl first but only time will tell if a captain has made the wrong call at the toss for the second time in as many weeks in Perth.
The Warriors come in with an unchanged team from the one that beat Victoria with Ryan Duffield again 12th man.
Marcus North and Shaun Marsh are coming off centuries against the Bushrangers with captain Voges, Sam Whiteman and Cameron Bancroft also making runs, while paceman Nathan Coulter-Nile took four wickets in both Victorian innings.
The Bulls haven’t made a great start to the Shield season with three draws and a loss from the opening four games but regain Cutting this week while former WA batsman Luke Pomersbach has received a late call-up for the clash as well.
