Voges ODI ton takes Aust to 274 v Windies

Adam Voges has scored his maiden one-day international cricket century to lead an Australian rescue in the fifth match of the series against the West Indies.

Voges was outstanding with an unbeaten 112 as Australia reached 5-274 from 50 overs.

Voges faced 106 balls and hit 10 fours and two sixes.

Brad Haddin scored 43 in a crucial 111-run stand for the fourth wicket with Voges, while Shaun Marsh made 40 and James Faulkner chipped in with an unbeaten 31.

Voges and Faulkner smashed 81 from 52 balls and Australia scored 100 in the last 10 overs as the tourists wilted.

Australia have won all four games so far in the five-match series.

After the tourists won the toss, Australia made a disastrous start when stand-in captain Shane Watson chopped the first ball of the innings onto his stumps.

Tino Best’s rearing delivery caught the top of Watson’s bat as the acting skipper tried to lift it out of the way and it went onto the stumps.

Best bowled a ferocious opening spell and, in his second over, he had Aaron Finch caught off a hook shot at fine leg to leave Australia 2-2.

Phil Hughes and Marsh saw off the early danger with a 61-run stand.

But Kieron Pollard took a sharp catch on the second attempt at point off the bowling of Dwayne Bravo to remove Hughes for 29.

When Bravo dismissed Marsh, Australia were still in trouble at 4-82.

It could have been even worse, with captain Darren Sammy dropping Voges at slip off the bowling of Sunil Narine for seven.

Two runs after Marsh’s dismissal, Voges and Haddin also had a mix-up when going for a run.

Had Pollard’s throw to the non-striker’s end been accurate, Voges would have been well short.

But Voges and Haddin combined to take the innings away from the tourists with their stand.

Best and Dwayne Bravo took two wickets apiece.

Australia made three changes, with captain Michael Clarke nursing a sore hamstring and Matthew Wade and Glenn Maxwell in India.

Marsh, Haddin and Xavier Doherty took their places, while the West Indies left out Andre Russell for Kemar Roach.

Nathan Coulter-Nile and Jason Holder were made the 12th men.
