Vics send Warriors in to bat at MCG

Victoria have won the toss and elected to bowl in overcast conditions in their Sheffield Shield match against Western Australia at the MCG.

The Warriors will be led by stand-in skipper and Test batsman Mike Hussey.

Hussey’s temporary appointment follows Marcus North’s shock decision to stand down as captain for form reasons after the Perth Scorchers’ ill-fated Champions League Twenty20 campaign in South Africa which involved a boozy night out for Mitchell Marsh’s 21st birthday.

Marsh’s brother Shaun has been left out of the side, which the Warriors say is for form reasons.

Young allrounder Mitchell Marsh has been overlooked for Australia A selection this week following the disciplinary issues in South Africa.

Paceman Nathan Rimmington is 12th man for the Warriors.

Victoria are without four players on Australia A duty, with Glenn Maxwell, John Hastings, Rob Quiney and Andrew McDonald all playing against South Africa this weekend at the SCG.

The Bushrangers included Alex Keath, Aaron Finch, Peter Handscomb and paceman Jayde Herrick and named uncapped legspinner James Muirhead as 12th man.

Teams:

Victoria: Cameron White (capt), Aaron Finch, Jayde Herrick, Peter Handscomb, David Hussey, Alex Keath, Clint McKay, James Pattinson, Chris Rogers, Peter Siddle, Matthew Wade, James Muirhead (12th man).

Western Australia: Mike Hussey (capt), Michael Beer, Jason Behrendorff, Marcus Harris, Michael Hogan, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Marsh, Marcus North, Tom Triffitt, Adam Voges, Sam Whiteman, Nathan Rimmington (12th man).
