Vics name two uncapped players in squad

Second-placed Victoria will field at least one debutant in the Sheffield Shield clash with NSW following injuries to Clint McKay and Andrew McDonald.

Paceman McKay and allrounder McDonald have been sidelined by hamstring strains while James Pattinson, Rob Quiney, Peter Siddle and Matthew Wade are on Test duties in Brisbane this week.

The Bushrangers on Monday named uncapped bowlers Louis Cameron and James Muirhead in a 12-man squad for the SCG clash beginning on Tuesday.

Legspinner Muirhead, 19, played two Twenty20 Big Bash League games for Adelaide Strikers last summer.

Pace bowler Cameron, 20, has a haul of 5-48 for Victoria’s Second XI to his credit already this season.

“Louis has been terrific since day one of pre-season,” Victoria coach Greg Shipperd said on Monday.

“It was a close call between him and Scott Boland, who played last season and has been competing hard for that position in the side.”

Victoria trail Queensland (20) on the Shield table while NSW are fourth with eight points, 10 behind the Bushrangers.

A Victoria spokesman said McKay was expected to be out of action for another two or three weeks while McDonald’s injury would be assessed later this week.

Muirhead may face a tough battle to win selection in the 11 given that the Bushrangers already have Glenn Maxwell, Cameron White and David Hussey as slow-bowling options in the team.

Victoria squad: Cameron White (capt), Louis Cameron, Ryan Carters, Aaron Finch, Peter Handscomb, John Hastings, Jayde Herrick, David Hussey, Alex Keath, Glenn Maxwell, James Muirhead, Chris Rogers.
