Tasmania won the toss and elected to bat on Friday in their Sheffield Shield encounter with South Australia at Adelaide Oval.
A top of 20 degrees is expected in Adelaide with showers possibly threatening play at some point during the day.
The Tigers lost last week to Victoria and have won just once in three Shield matches but will be boosted by the return of gifted allrounder James Faulkner.
Faulkner was set to carry the drinks for Australia in the first Ashes Test against England at the Gabba, but was withdrawn by national selectors and rushed into Tasmania’s side to preserve the left-armer’s form.
Paceman Andrew Fekete has been omitted to accommodate Faulkner’s return.
The Tigers’ top order has also been strengthened by the inclusion of former Test opener Ed Cowan, who made 51 and 42 for a Cricket Australia Invitational XI against England last week.
The Redbacks’ batting stocks are also bolstered by the return of Callum Ferguson, who also featured in the Invitational XI last week, while fast bowler Kane Richardson has been named for his first Shield game of the summer after recovering from injury at the expense of rookie Trent Lawford.
Teenager Kelvin Smith will serve as 12th man for the hosts, while Tigers quick Sam Rainbird will carry the drinks for the visitors.
