Test pair fall as NSW dominate Qld

Test pair David Warner and Steve Smith both fell to loose shots but NSW are in full control of the Sheffield Shield clash with Queensland in Brisbane.

At lunch on day three the Blues are 3-153, a lead of 317 in their second innings, despite the dismissals of Warner, Smith and Scott Henry.

After Queensland could only add six runs to their overnight score before being dismissed for 222, the Blues started freely with Warner chancing his arm on several occasions.

The dashing opener scored a few streaky fours before his luck run out on 21 when he chopped an Alister McDermott delivery back onto his stumps.

His opening partner, Nic Maddinson, continued where he left off in the first innings, scoring his second half-century of the match to be 62no at the break off just 76 balls.

Smith, who scored 69 in NSW’s 386 first innings total, looked in good nick as he raced to 36 at better than a run a ball.

But the 24-year-old then played all around a straight one from McDermott and was clean bowled.

McDermott was the pick of Queensland’s bowlers to be 2-22 off six overs at the break while Cameron Boyce removed Henry (28) to have figures of 1-53 off just six overs.
