Tasmania trounce SA in Sheffield Shield

Paceman Luke Butterworth again destroyed South Australia’s batsmen to help Tasmania secure a crushing innings and 30 run victory in the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

Butterworth took 10 wickets for the match, including 4-40 in the second innings as SA were all out for 149 some 45 minutes into Friday’s final day.

The Redbacks are now winless in their past 18 Shield games, a bleak streak dating back to December 2010.

Butterworth took a career-best 6-49 in the first innings as SA were rolled for 224 in reply to Tasmania’s 3(dec)-403.

And the paceman took little time in continuing his stunning match on Friday, taking wickets in consecutive balls in the second over of the day.

Butterworth dismissed Redbacks allrounder Dan Christian (14) with a full ball which the batsman attempted to drive but missed, and was out lbw.

Next ball, the Tiger quick delivered a brute of a short ball which tracked towards the chin of Nathan Lyon, who tried to get out of the way but got gloved the ball to Ricky Ponting at third slip.

Chadd Sayers pushed Butterworth’s next ball to cover for a single, denying the fast bowler a hat-trick.

Butterworth’s pace partner Jackson Bird struck soon after, claiming his third wicket when Tim Ludeman (19) popped a return catch to the bowler.

And Bird sealed the triumph by dismissing Sayers (17) to finish with 4-53.
