After securing six wickets in two sessions to end the Queensland innings on day three, Tasmania have cemented their grip on the Sheffield Shield clash at Allan Border Field, batting at 1-25 to have a lead of 129 at tea.
Queensland resumed after lunch at 5-215, but after the loss of Peter Forrest and Ryan Harris in successive overs, Andrew Fekete made short work of the tail-end, claiming three wickets in the second hour to leave the home side at 9(dec)-303.
A knee injury to rookie batsman Nick Stevens forced Queensland to declare after the ninth wicket, trailing Tasmania’s total by 104 runs following the collapse of the tail.
Queensland managed to draw early blood late in the session when captain James Hopes trapped opener Mark Cosgrove in front for 11.
Fekete was the best of the Tasmanian bowlers with 4-74 from 23 overs, while spinner Clive Rose had 2-68.
After a quick-fire fifty partnership, Peter Forrest and Ryan Harris fell in back-to-back overs, Forrest (68) smashing a Clive Rose short ball straight to cover before Fekete trapped Harris (41) in his crease in what was the fifth LBW dismissal of the Queensland innings.
With the home side struggling at 7-276, Fekete had Cameron Gannon edge one to slips for 7 before Cameron Boyce followed with an edge to keeper Ben Dunk for 9.
Jordan Silk is on 11 while Ed Cowan will resume on 2 for Tasmania.
