A star-studded testimonial match for former Test captain Ricky Ponting is set to be announced for January.
Ponting’s management is expected to reveal details of the Aurora Stadium match in Launceston on Wednesday morning.
The game could feature former teammates Shane Warne, Adam Gilchrist, Mark Waugh, Justin Langer and Matthew Hayden, Tasmanian newspaper The Examiner reported, and takes place a day after Australia’s Twenty20 international against England in Hobart.
AFL stars and Tasmanian boxer Daniel Geale could also be part of the hometown match to raise money for The Ponting Foundation, which supports children with cancer.
Ponting will play in the experimental Aussie 15s club tournament at Aurora on Wednesday night.
The idea of former Tasmania coach Tim Coyle, it features 15-player teams in a 15-over per side format and other experimental rules.
