Sri Lanka set Windies 230 to win

PORT-OF-SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago, July 8 AP – Kumar Sangakkara struck an unbeaten 90 off 95 balls as Sri Lanka set West Indies 230 to win off 41 overs in a rain-affected fifth match of the Celkon Mobile Cup at Queen’s Park Oval.

Sangakkara lashed six fours and a six as the visitors reached 219-8 off 41 overs after being 60-3 from 19 overs overnight.

Monday’s play was delayed by persistent showers and a further rain delay meant that West Indies’ target was adjusted to 230 off 41 overs.

Sangakkara anchored the innings and received good support from captain Angelo Mathews, who scored 30 off 26 balls, and Lahiru Thirimanne with 23.

Fast bowler Kemar Roach, who undermined Sri Lanka on Sunday before the rains, ended with 4-27 while Jason Holder grabbed 2-50.

Sangakkara, resuming on 11, stretched his fourth-wicket stand with Thirimanne to 64 before Marlon Samuels struck to remove Thirimanne at 93-4.

Thirimanne was bowled by a faster ball after a painstaking 73-ball stay.

Sangakkara found an ably ally in skipper Mathews, with the pair adding 46 either side of another rain interruption.

Roach came back to claim Mathews and Jeevan Mendis cheaply, but Sangakkara ensured a grandstand finish with 80 runs from the last seven overs.
