Michael Hussey believes the second Test will be special for Shaun and Mitch Marsh, but an even better occasion for mum Michelle and dad Geoff.

Hussey played one-day and Twenty20 cricket for Australia alongside brother David, having famously “beaten each other up” during their childhood backyard cricket battles.

The 39-year-old was always proud to represent his country, but the feeling was amplified when David was by his side.

“It was just really nice for the family, because you knew mum and dad would be really proud,” Hussey told AAP.

“We wanted to get on with it, but it was nice and it was special.

“We didn’t have too many really good partnerships together, but there were a couple.

“That was a good feeling, when you and your brother helped your country win a game.”

Hussey played with Shaun Marsh at Western Australia, where rumours quickly spread of Mitchell Marsh’s feats in junior cricket.

“It was pretty difficult to get much out of Shaun, he’s a very quiet guy. But other friends and players started to talk about the younger Marsh brother,” the Sydney Thunder captain said.

“I’m really happy he chose cricket ahead of AFL. He’s such a great package.

“And Shaun – I played with him and always knew what he was capable of.

“It’s a great story. It’s going to be great to watch.

“The whole family will be chuffed and I’m sure the brothers won’t be lacking motivation.”

David Hussey, who is still playing for Victoria, has scored over 13,000 first-class runs at an average of 52.16.

Michael Hussey is among many good judges to suggest David was “certainly good enough to play Test cricket”.

“It would have been nice to play a Test with him,” Hussey said.

“It didn’t pan out that way – you need a bit of luck and need to be in the right place at the right time.

“But playing T20s and ODIs with Dave was still really special.”
