Southern Stars victorious in T20 warm-up

The Australian women’s cricket team enjoyed a 19-run win over Sri Lanka in their first warm-up game ahead of their World Twenty20 title defence.

Southern Stars skipper Meg Lanning and Jess Cameron forged an impressive 70-run partnership to help notch a total of 5-144, which proved too much for Sri Lanka who managed just 5-125 in Dhaka on Tuesday.

Lanning led the way with 43, including seven boundaries, while Jess Jonassen was the best of the bowlers with 2-5 from her three overs.

Australia, winners of the tournament in 2010 and 2012, play their second and final practice match against the West Indies on Friday.

They will then fly to Sylhet for the first of their World T20 group games against New Zealand on Sunday.
