South Africa to honour retired Boucher

Cricket South Africa (CSA) will recognise the career of Mark Boucher with a tribute to the former Proteas wicketkeeper on Friday’s third day of the first Test against New Zealand at Newlands.

CSA says the day will serve “to honour Mark Boucher and thank him for his enormous contribution to South African cricket”.

The ‘keeper was forced to retire from international cricket last year after suffering a serious eye injury in a warm-up match against Somerset at the start of South Africa’s Test tour of England.

He finished with 999 dismissals in all internationals, including a record 555 in his 147 tests – more than 100 above his nearest rival, Australian Adam Gilchrist.

Boucher also averaged more than 30 as a Test batsman with five hundreds and 35 half-centuries.
