Siddle, Finch return for Vics in Shield

Victoria will regain national representatives Peter Siddle and Aaron Finch for Monday’s crucial Sheffield Shield match against South Australia at the MCG.

Cameron White’s Bushrangers are fourth on the table with 18 points, trailing Tasmania (22), Western Australia (26) and Queensland (30) with three rounds remaining.

Paceman Siddle returns from Test duties while Finch is back after playing for Australia’s Twenty20 side in the series against India.

Victoria beat last-placed South Australia by 186 runs in their Shield encounter in Adelaide last week and will be full of confidence for the return clash.

Bushrangers opener Rob Quiney, the leading scorer in the Shield this season with 686 runs at 52.76, scored twin centuries against the Redbacks last week.

Out-of-form skipper White – dropped from the national T20 side and averaging only 21 in the Shield, will set a new benchmark for the Bushrangers on Monday.

The 28-year-old will break Bill Lawry’s record of 56 games as Victoria’s Shield captain.

“Bill’s a great Victorian and Australian player and it’s a real honour and privilege to be in this role and, hopefully, there are a few more years to come,” White said on Friday.

“The points table is so tight at the moment that it’s a really important game for us.”

Alex Keath, who made two runs and took two wickets in Adelaide, has been dropped from the squad alongside fellow youngster Meyrick Buchanan who was 12th man.

Victorian squad:

Cameron White (capt), Scott Boland, Ryan Carters, Aaron Finch, Peter Handscomb, Jayde Herrick, Jon Holland, Andrew McDonald, Rob Quiney, Chris Rogers, Will Sheridan, Peter Siddle.
