The Perth Scorchers are again banking on wise old heads to bring them Twenty20 success after signing Marcus North, Mike Hussey and Simon Katich for the upcoming Big Bash League season.
A day after locking in 41-year-old spinner Brad Hogg, the Scorchers signed three more wily veterans in a squad that is shaping up to be similar to last season.
And that’s good news for Scorchers fans after the Perth-based franchise made it all the way through to the final last season before losing to the Sydney Sixers.
Hogg, captain North, Hussey and Katich all played for the Scorchers last year, and rumours are rife that tearaway quick Pat Cummins is set to join them in Perth.
Cummins was part of the Sixers squad last season, but failed to play a game due to a long-term foot injury.
The 19-year-old is sidelined again by a side strain, and would need to be carefully managed this summer due to his history of injury setbacks.
In Brisbane, spinner Nathan Hauritz re-signed with the Heat on a two-year deal in the hope it will boost his chances of returning to the national set-up.
Hauritz played the last of his 58 ODIs in 2011, while his 17-match Test career stalled in 2010.
But the 30-year-old believes his recent move to Brisbane, where he will play under coach Darren Lehmann for both the Heat and Queensland Bulls, will enhance his chances of breaking back into the Australian team.
The Adelaide Strikers made their first BBL signing of the year on Wednesday, re-signing import Johan Botha as captain.
Botha made 75 runs at an average of 37.50 last season, while the South African also took five wickets at an average of 19.8.
The BBL season runs from December 7 through to January 19.
