SA’s Ferguson out for 164 against Bulls

Strokeplayer Callum Ferguson’s highest first-class score helped South Australia advance to 7-359 against Queensland at lunch on day two of the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

Ferguson’s superb knock ended on 164, when caught behind from the bowling of Bulls’ paceman Ben Cutting.

Cutting had figures of 3-61 at the lunch break, with spinner Nathan Hauritz (2-103) and Bulls’ skipper James Hopes (2-61) the other multiple wicket-takers.

Ferguson, who batted more than seven hours and struck 14 fours and a six from his 342 deliveries, eclipsed his previous highest score of 132 before falling in the over before lunch.

The stylish right-hander attempted a leg-side flick to a widish Cutting delivery and was caught low down by Bulls’ wicketkeeper Chris Hartley.

Ferguson earlier featured in a 162-run partnership with Tim Ludeman for the sixth wicket.

The stand ended when Ludeman, on 78, advanced to a flighted Hauritz spinner and tried a lofted shot, only to get an edge to Hartley.

Ludeman’s solid knock followed the 25-year-old’s highest first-class score of 85 against Tasmania in a Shield game last week.
