SA storm back against Vics in Shield

South Australian paceman Joe Mennie triggered a Victorian batting collapse on Saturday’s third day of the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

Mennie took four wickets as the Bushrangers stumbled to 6-79 at tea, a lead of 131 runs.

The Victorians, after banking first innings points, lost their six wickets for 27 runs in a 15 over span as the Redbacks stormed back into the game.

Mennie was central to the SA comeback and boasted figures of 4-24 from 15 overs at the tea break, while fellow quick Chadd Sayers claimed the other two wickets to fall.

Sayers started the Victorian collapse by bowling Rob Quiney (14) after a 43 run opening partnership with Chris Rogers (25), who fell in Mennie’s next over.

Michael Hill (three), David Hussey (eight), Peter Handscomb (two) and skipper Cameron White (11) all soon followed as the Victorians went from 0-43 to 6-70.

Earlier Saturday, the Bushrangers collected innings points when bowling SA out for 267, some 52 runs behind Victoria’s first innings of 319.
