SA need 189 runs to down Vics in Shield

A Victorian batting crash has left South Australia needing 189 runs to win the Sheffield Shield match at Adelaide Oval.

SA speedster Joe Mennie took six wickets as the Bushrangers crumbled to 136 all out late on Saturday’s third day.

Victoria had earlier banked innings points, bowling the Redbacks out for 267 to take a 52 run lead into their second dig.

But Mennie took 6-43 from 21 overs, with support from Chadd Sayers (2-42), as the Bushrangers struggled to drive home their advantage.

Victoria’s James Pattinson top-scored with 33 while opener Chris Rogers made 25.

Rogers put on 43 runs for the first wicket with Rob Quiney (14), whose dismissal as the first man out started a slide of 8-50 as Mennie ripped through the visitors.

But Pattinson helped the Bushrangers to seek out a valuable 43 runs for the final two wickets.
