SA lead NSW by 83 runs on first innings

South Australia logged a 83-run first innings lead against NSW on Wednesday’s second day of the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

The Redbacks were bowled out for 240 with Jake Brown top-scoring with 65 and Tim Ludeman making 60.

NSW quicks Trent Copeland (4-56) and Doug Bollinger (4-77) were the chief wicket-takers, with 20-year-old legspinner Adam Zampa nabbing the final two wickets.

Brown and Ludeman rescued SA from a precarious 5-51 with a 120-run stand for the sixth wicket which delivered innings points for the home side.

And SA’s tail wagged with bowlers Joe Mennie and Chadd Sayers both making 24 and putting on a 45-run partnership for the ninth wicket.

SA’s two points for an innings lead took them to 20 points on the Shield table, two behind second-placed Queensland and four adrift of competition leaders Victoria.
