SA draw Shield game with Tasmania

Captain Michael Klinger scored a double-century as South Australia salvaged a draw against Tasmania in the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

The Redbacks were 2-421 in their second innings on Saturday’s final day, a lead of 148 runs over the Tigers when play was halted some 30 minutes before scheduled stumps.

Klinger compiled 219 not out and was superbly supported by emerging batsmen Travis Head and Tom Stray, who each made 90.

Their fighting knocks, and rain washing out the opening day’s play, thwarted Tasmania’s bid for victory.

The Tigers banked first innings points to take their tally to 30, equal with Queensland and four shy of leaders Western Australia.

Tasmania host WA next week while Queensland host the last-placed Redbacks in fixtures which will decide the Shield finalists.
