SA declare at 9-402 v Bulls in Shield

Callum Ferguson’s highest first-class score underpinned South Australia’s 9(dec)-402 against Queensland in the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

The Redbacks declared almost 45 minutes after lunch on Wednesday’s second day, with Ferguson top-scoring with 164.

Bulls paceman Ben Cutting claimed 3-61 while spinner Nathan Hauritz, Luke Feldman and captain James Hopes were other multiple wicket-takers.

SA resumed on Wednesday at 5-256 and Ferguson and wicketkeeper-batsman Tim Ludeman took the total to 349 before the Bulls broke through.

Ludeman, on 78, advanced to a flighted Hauritz delivery and attempted a lofted shot only to edge to Queensland ‘keeper Chris Hartley.

The dismissal ended a 162-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Ferguson and Ludeman.

Ferguson surpassed his previous best first-class score of 132 before falling to Cutting in the over before lunch, caught down the leg-side by Bulls wicketkeeper Chris Hartley.

The Redbacks added a further 45 runs and lost two wickets after lunch before captain Johan Botha declared at the fall of the ninth wicket.
