SA bowlers strike twice against NSW

South Australia’s bowlers landed early blows to leave NSW at 2-49 at lunch on Tuesday’s second day of the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

In reply to SA’s first innings of 288, the Blues lost Nic Maddinson for a third-ball duck and Scott Henry for 15.

Maddinson was out playing a horrible shot, reaching to try and cut a short, wide delivery from Gary Putland (1-7) but nicking to wicketkeeper Tim Ludeman.

Henry fell to SA captain Johan Botha (1-4), the New South Welshman getting fooled by an arm ball and trapped lbw.

Blues opener Ryan Carters was not out 24 with Ben Roehrer on seven.

Earlier, SA batsman Callum Ferguson fell just short of a century when last man out in the Redbacks’ innings.

Ferguson tried to pull a short ball from Steve O’Keefe but chopped onto his stumps to give the NSW spinner his fifth wicket.

O’Keefe finished with 5-89 from 36.2 overs while paceman Josh Hazlewood took 3-55 from 24 overs. Quicks Doug Bollinger and Trent Copeland claimed one wicket each.
