SA beat Vics by seven wickets in Shield

South Australia have eased to a seven-wicket win over Victoria in their Sheffield Shield cricket match at the MCG.

After losing two early wickets, SA cruised to victory at 3-183 after tea on the fourth day, claiming their second outright win of the season.

It is Victoria’s second straight outright loss.

Callum Ferguson (21) belted a four off Jon Holland for the winning runs, while Michael Klinger top scored with an unbeaten 73.

Klinger and Tom Cooper ensured the win with a 122-run partnership for the third wicket.

Cooper was out at tea for 71, hitting the ground in anger with his bat after part-timer Rob Quiney had him caught at first slip.

The expected challenge on the final day from Victoria’s front-line spinners Fawad Ahmed and Holland never happened.

Ahmed conceded 0-38 from nine overs and Holland went 0-63 from 13.1.

Chasing 180, SA were in early trouble at 2-27, but Klinger and Cooper ensured the win with their 122-run stand.

Earlier on Monday, Victoria’s tail continued to wag and they reached 404 in their second innings.

Holland scored 43 and Boland made 42, while Gary Putland and Chadd Sayers took three wickets apiece.

SA took control on day one when they skittled Victoria for 118.
