SA batsmen struggling against Victoria

South Australia slumped to 4-137 against Victoria at tea on day two of the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

The Redbacks lost their four wickets for 61 runs as their batsmen struggled in reply to Victoria’s first innings total of 437.

Victorian allrounder Andrew McDonald (2-29) claimed two prized wickets amid the collapse, bowling both Redbacks captain Michael Klinger (one) and Callum Ferguson (14).

Only opener James Smith resisted the Bushrangers, making 76 before falling lbw to the left-arm spin of Jon Holland.

Smith and Tom Stray (13) earlier put on a 63-run opening stand which was ended by a needless run out.

Stray pushed for a second run from a Smith stroke to deep midwicket but was sent back by his partner to be run out well short of his crease.

McDonald then bowled Klinger with an off-cutter before a similar delivery broke through Ferguson’s forward defence.
