S Africa declare at 525 against NZ

Faf du Plessis and Dean Elgar hit centuries on day two of the second cricket Test to continue South Africa’s complete dominance over New Zealand.

The hosts declared on 8-525 just after tea on Saturday.

Du Plessis made 137 for his second Test century and Elgar 103 not out for his maiden hundred, adding to Hashim Amla’s 110.

South Africa delayed the declaration to allow Elgar to reach three figures and captain Graeme Smith called his batsmen in as soon as Elgar hit a four down to long-on for his century.

Amla made the first century of South Africa’s innings on day one but added just four to his overnight score.

Doug Bracewell took 3-94 and debutant Colin Munro 2-40 in a struggling New Zealand bowling effort.

The Black Caps were then 2-8 in the fifth over of their first innings and reeling badly after Martin Guptill and Kane Williamson fell to Dale Steyn.
