Jesse Ryder’s impressive return to first-class cricket has been marred by claims of bad language during Wellington’s Plunket Shield win over Central Districts.
New Zealand Cricket has confirmed that the 28-year-old left-handed batsman has been cited and faces a code of conduct hearing.
However, chief executive David White says there is a 72-hour appeal process and he cannot comment further in the meantime.
Ryder scored 117 not out and 174 as Wellington beat CD by five wickets in Napier, but he is reported to have been upset when a leg-before appeal off his bowling was turned down.
Ryder averages 40.93 in Tests and 34.37 in one-day internationals but his career has been weighed down by off-field incidents.
He is returning to cricket after taking a break during the year to concentrate on health and fitness goals.
