Former Australian one-day wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi is rumoured to have told his Western Australia team-mates he’s moving to New Zealand in a bid to return to international cricket.
The 30-year-old, who has played four ODIs for Australia, hasn’t featured for the national team since a Twenty20 international against South Africa in 2009.
Reports out of Western Australia claim New Zealand-born Ronchi is set to move across the Tasman to continue his first-class career and possibly even play Test or one-day cricket for the Black Caps.
Ronchi, set to play for Western Australia in a Sheffield Shield match against NSW at the WACA Ground starting on Friday, apparently told his team-mates the news at training on Thursday.
The Manuwatu-born Ronchi may well have been inspired to make the move after the success of former Perth-based batsman Dean Brownlie, who has played four Tests for New Zealand since heading across the Tasman in 2009.
Ronchi, who has played 58 first-class matches and 86 one-day games for WA, would apparently be immediately available for New Zealand if he makes the switch.
