Rogers nears half-ton for Vics against SA

Test opener Chris Rogers is nearing a half-century for Victoria against South Australia in the Sheffield Shield match in Adelaide.

In reply to SA’s 7(dec)-431, the Bushrangers are 0-87 at tea on Monday’s second day with Rogers unbeaten on 45 and Rob Quiney not out 33.

Rogers entered the Shield encounter amid mounting pressure on him retaining his Test slot, given his poor series against Pakistan when he made only 88 runs at an average of 22.

But the left-hander showed customary determination against the Redbacks as he and Quiney batted throughout the middle session while scoring just 75 runs.

Earlier, SA declared their first innings some 20 minutes before lunch with Callum Ferguson top-scoring with 140 and Tim Ludeman making 106.

Test quick Peter Siddle took 2-54 from 23 overs with Chris Tremain (2-81) and spinner Jon Holland (2-92) other multiple wicket-takers.
